Depends on what you want to do. You can use it for aerodynamics, intake design, or even heat transfer. As far as intake goes, it can help with restrictor and plenum design, but thats after you understand the fundamentals, such as incompressible/compressible flow, acoustics etc. I imagine the same would be applicable to aero. Fluent is only useful after you've done the hand calculations, but it is a powerful design tool.
