View Full Version : Tunes for the Shop

Well, after a spree of listening to Charlie Sheen remixes last year, our team has yet to settle on a new favourite song for the shop.

I'd like to get an idea of what other teams are listening to right now, maybe it'll help boost productivity around here. Mozart, anyone?

Currently, we rock anything from Metallica, Soundgarden, Daft Punk, Deadmau5, to Creedence Clearwater Revival.

I thought the Daft Punk Pandora station was officially re-named "FSAE"...

We usually just throw up dubstep in Pandora and let it do its thing. Seems to do the trick. Doesnt hurt that its pumped through some pretty hefty drivers. Plus it has the added benefit of keeping out the unwanted senior design students building projects cause they don't wanna deal with the music.

Final countdown, Highway to the Dangerzone, disney songs, Bloodhound Gang, Jon Lajoie, and cooking by the book.

Best played after 1 am.

Otherwise dubstep and bad 80s are good choices.

Rebecca Black friday and Look at my horse; anything that will drive you insane, yet they seem to sound good after listening to them on repeat for hours on end...

The tunes most often heard in our shop include: Steel Panther, Kidz Bop, etc.. you know, the usual.

I recommend Maniac by Michael Sembello or anything from the Scarface soundtrack http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

We created a station in Pandora called Baja radio that was explicitly created to drive them out of the shop. It definitely falls into the category of music that will drive you insane, yet sounds good after listening to them for hours on end.

It's a lot of Muse in the R&D shop I work in now.

When I am doing a lot of welding it's gotta be metal - specifically Swedish deathmetal (Amon Amarth is a good station seed).

During design phase we mostly listen to metal, Chronix (Aggression) and the national Radio Rock seem to work.

During build phase we usually tune to "Groove FM" that plays 80s hits especially in the night time. Nothing beats metal work and 80s music together! http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
National hit (Finnish melancholic sort-of-tango music) and national talk radio also get some airtime.

We also play somewhat a lot of Eläkeläiset - something the germans seem to like. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Depending on the night and who is working in the garage it will usually be alternative rock, hair metal, 80s pop, modern pop, dubstep, country, or some combination of all of the above and then some. My Cake station on Pandora hasn't actually played Cake since 2010.

Also, it is amusing when you have a radio out with one of our member's iPods attached to it while at another SAE competition. Apparently the Clean Snowmobile guys don't regularly kick their Fridays off with Richard Cheese's awe-inspiring rendition of Rebecca Black's 'Friday'.

When we had a DAB radio we listened to the aptly named Amazing Radio, that was well over a year ago now. Last summer it was mainly whatever we could get tuned into on some cheap radios that, in turn, all died from dust inhalation. Unfortunately that meant a lot of pop music, with the same 5 songs repeated over and over. There's only so many times you can listen to "I need a dollar, dollar, a dollar is what I need..." Before you start screaming about how much you wish you could give them a blinking million dollars just so long as they promised never to play that song again. I think we all went a little mad because of that song.

Claude,

I thought working at OptimumG I would learn the ways of romantic people with help from my French speaking colleagues. An appreciation of Barry White would have helped.

Instead I learnt how to curse a bit in French and that the English really like Roast Beef. My wife was not impressed!

Welding?

Three words my friends. Epic Sax Guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxopViU98Xo).

Only listened to 60% of that particular video, but I have a feeling the last 4 hours are just as good.

Why not start a playlist on spotify that every formula team can add music to? I have created a spotify playlist labeled "Formula SAE 2014" and if you can find it (URL: http://open.spotify.com/user/1251124...yqXjvbRJo45wwE) you can add to it your team's favorite shop music, and maybe this can turn into some sort of cool potpourri of FSAE/FS music from around the world. Music on this thread can be added to the playlist for easier listening

A collaborative playlist means everyone can add and delete songs. I do not want to moderate the playlist, so I ask all who participate to not abuse the playlist, but all music is welcome. Check to make sure what you want to add is not already in the playlist, and DO NOT go around deleting songs because they do not fit your taste.

I hope this is a fun experience for everyone, at the end of the season I'll remove the ability to edit and open a new playlist for the 2015 season.

Cheers,
Nicholas Kuhajda
