i was wondering if the clocking of the two apex joints in a steering column is at all critical? the angle of the 2 joints is the same, and this is all that i've heard regarding input vs. output velocity with those things, as they are more of a constant velocity joint rather than a universal joint (from what i understand). any help would be much appreciated.

Apex joints ARE universal (Hooke) joints, so they need to be correctly phased:

Yes it is important, see above. On a side note, we were asked what angle our two apex joints were phased relative to each other at design semifinals at Michigan this year.
