Hello 2005 SVSU GP Competitors,

I need to have the following information from each of the teams as soon as possible:

The number of drivers (3 max per team*),
The number of team members staying at SVSU on Sunday night (no max),
The number of team members staying at SVSU on Monday night (no max),
The number of team members staying at SVSU on Tuesday night (no max),
The number of meals requested for the whole event**

*--Keep in mind that the first driver's fee is included in the $50 entry fee; second and third driver's fee is $20 each additionally.
**--Total number of meals includes two lunches and banquet meal per team member.

Everything is going right on schedule for the 2005 SVSU GP. SVSU Administration is on board, the SCCA Saginaw Valley Region has a new timing system, and we have a full docket of racing!

However, we would prefer to have some teams on the waiting list just in case one or more of the teams won't be able to make it (because their racecar breaks at competition, for example). So, if there are any interested teams out there, please contact me at phdegner@svsu.edu and visit www.svsu.edu/fsae (http://www.svsu.edu/fsae) for further notice.

Thanks again, and I hope all is going well in your competition preparation...

Whoops, I just bought my airline ticket with a return flight Tuesday leaving at 7:00pm. Guess I won't make the main event http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But, qualifying and open track sound like fun.

I don't suppose you'd consider moving the main event to earlier in the day?

We'll get back to you with the info you requested.

nah, probably can't move the tournament earlier--but the qualifiying is still pretty cool. where are you flying out of? MBS is only 5 minutes from SVSU--it'll save you a 2 hour trip to detroit's airport...

All right, I changed my return flight to Wednesday morning... http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

See you all soon!

Hi guys,

Walbro will be sponsoring prices for the SVSU GP again this year. There will be a Minj or Bike 400 ECU (http://walbro-tdd.com/prodottie.html#) and two Fuel Pump Kits (http://fsae.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/412600868/m/72710490521).

I am looking forward to a fun event. Last year was a blast! Everyone that is not competing is of course welcome to stop by and spectate!!!

I've started a photo gallery from today's qualifying session:
http://students.washington.edu/dennyt/fsae/2005-SVSU-GP/

Thanks to everyone from SVSU and the local SCCA region for putting this on! We're all having a great time.

I was very impressed by SVSU and <STRIKE>Florida State's</STRIKE> U. of Florida's cars and drivers (yup, they beat me... today http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif ). And, Wisconsin was putting down some good times mid-day as well.

On to tonight's drinking event...

I just wanted to say we are all having a great time up here, except maybe for the weather, and all the cars are very competetive. The layout of this event is so nice, we are having more fun than we did in Pontiac and are already planning on returning next year.

Whoops, sorry UF guys.

I wanted to say a big Thank You! to Brooks Byam for organizing such a great event. It was well-run, gave us the opportunity to get lots of practice time, and some heated competition! Plus, at the end of the day, several of us got to swap cars, which was definitely eye-opening and very fun.

I've posted more pictures at:
http://students.washington.edu/dennyt/fsae/2005-SVSU-GP-2/

I'll try to edit some of the video I shot, but it might take a week or two.

To the crew at SVSU:
You guys amazed me. Very fast car, and very fast drivers! I barely edged out Dan Deussen in qualifying, and Phast Phil had the fast laps today in open practice. Your car was a blast to drive, lots of torque, and I love the whine of the gear drive and the no-lift upshifts http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

To the University of Florida:
You guys also amazed me, and after a long year and a difficult week in Detroit, your win was well-deserved. Khalil was the man to catch for most of the weekend, and he caught me in the final round of the tournament. For those who don't know, their car first drove in October '04, was wrecked (entire frame rebuilt) in January, and was tested the rest of the time. Very impressive!

To Wisconsin:
You guys are a bunch of crazy mofo's. Great job on the course, Donovan. And, I've found my doppelganger, it's really bizarre.

To Michigan Tech:
For a team that fired their car up for the first time a week ago, it's a big deal to be only 1 second (25s laps) off the pace with top-running teams. Good work!

To Akron, Carleton and Guelph:
Sorry I didn't get to talk with you more, and I hope you can take advantage of some summer drive time to work out bugs, small and large.

I never would have guessed that the competition would have been as close as it was among the top four teams. We were all trading the lead in the morning practice session by tenths of a second at a time.

We probably won't be back next year, because we're headed to the West event, so that means there's one spot open for another team to come have a blast! I really recommend it.

Great competition and thanks to SVSU for their hospitality and help. Sorry for leaving early again, but with the bent a-arm that ripped the CV boot, the low oil pressure, and the knocking noises in the engine we decided to pack it in.
We did finally manage to get the telemetry working on Monday, so we got a ton of useful data that afternoon and Tuesday.

Oh, and I forgot to thank Walbro for kicking in the great prizes, the SCCA Saginaw Valley Region for running the course and timing, and Teamtech for their sponsorship as well. Thank you!

All right, I've started editing some video footage. Here's the first installment (MPEGs, right-click and save target):
Dangerous Dan Deussen! (http://students.washington.edu/dennyt/fsae/SVSU-DangerousDan.mpeg)

Sorry I didn't have any footage of a clean lap, Dan, but I thought it was pretty entertaining http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Good job on your faster lap later!

Wisconsin vs Florida (http://students.washington.edu/dennyt/fsae/SVSU-Wisc-Vs-UF.mpeg) - will be uploading for an hour or so, so if it doesn't work, try again later.

More to come, though my camcorder battery died before the final round.

For what it's worth, our motor ran in the car for the first time on May 19 about 1:00 am, if I remember correctly. First time it moved under it's own power was the brake test. We had a variety of motor problems during competition, not surprising with zero developement. The first time it ran right for any length of time was during qualifying at SVSU.

And I was on rains, I was pretty satisfied with the results all things considered.

Thanks everybody that helped to finally get our car running well, even if it was short lived. At around 3:00 on Tuesday we had nearly zero oil pressure according to the gauge, still haven't found out if the gauge is correct or not, but the motor definitely isn't happy.

The event was great, you guys put on a good race.

The race between Wisconsin and SVSU was a real highlight for me.

Our team plans to be there next year.

Edit- One last thing, thanks to everybody that put up with my questions about everything on your car. Learned a lot.

Well, I've got the first race between you and me, but the camera is on my car the whole time, which is pretty boring, and my account is just about full now http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sorry this is a little late. I was quite impressed with the qualtiy of competiton at the SVSU GP. I would like to thank Brooks for organizing the event and for putting in the extra time that an event like this requires. And a special thanks to his wife for going the extra mile to feed us in a time of crisis.

I'd also like to thank the teams that participated in the car swap. I know I gained some useful information through the comparision of the cars. Its not too often you get to drive another FSAE car.

I hope everyone had as much fun as we did. It was nice to be able to relax a little after the stressful preperation/execution of competition. I am looking forward to next years event. Hopefully we will be invited back for another good competition.
