hi guys
can u pls tell me hw to check deceleration (both peak and avg) without doing a crash test using accelerometers since our university doesn't hv tat facility and tat would be costly outside.........

As far as I know quasi-static tests aren't accepted anymore, so you'll have to figure something out...

1) Attach attenuator to front of old car.
2) Rent a backhoe.
3) Place bucket of backhoe in ground.
4) Get freshmen to drive car into bucket.
5) Profit.

we could determine average deceleration by drop test but for peak deceleration its costing too much if we use accelerometers..

Quasi-static testing may be performed by teams using their universities facilities/equipment, but teams are advised to exercise due care when performing all tests.

Quasi-static testing will give you force-displacement data. You have been given a specified mass in the rules. And this pretty swell guy named Newton came up with a nifty relationship between force, mass, and acceleration. You should be able to figure out the rest.

And Bemo, the North American competitions still allow quasi-static testing, but seeing as how the deadline for IA data was almost a month ago, I assume the OP is competing elsewhere. I can't speak for the other comps, but I believe they've been trying to standardize all rulebooks, so I would assume the other comps allow it as well ( I know for sure FS-UK does).

Bemo is right. FSG for example does not allow quasi-static testing.

In that case it is also not accepted in Austria as the FSG-rules are in charge there. So at least I wasn't completely wrong...
