Hi guys,

Being a first year team, we are a little short on funds and are still trying to acquire an engine management system for our F4i. Due to the price, we are looking to use a Megasquirt II. Are there any teams out there selling their Megasquirt II systems? Thanks.

Why not just use stock ECU and power commander?

Adam,

Unless you are buying one of the newer wave-soldered MSII units that come pre-assembled, I would advise that you don't get a used ECU, (unless Denny Trimble soldered it) they are extremely sensitive to being assembled correctly, and there are several hardware components that you have to select from a list depending on your engine configuration, it really needs to be built with your particular setup in mind, thus it's DIY kit form.

If new units are seriously out of your price range, I would take exFSAE's advise if possible. You don't want to be chasing engine troubles for a month because the ECU you buy used is flawed, or otherwise.

You can get the kits new with a wiring loom for under $400 I believe, with a bunch of the options, or you can strip it down from that a bit, but as always, this is just my oppinion.

We used MS-II last year, and it was the engine lead's first time building up the box and configuring the system, and we still had problems despite his valiant (and extraordinarily time consuming) efforts, but we also ran it on a single, the 4-cyl engines seem to play nicer with it.

Sorry I didn't get to meet you guys at the SAE seciton meeting a few weeks back, if you guys want to chat MS-II let me know, we have a lot to say about it.

We are switching ECU's this year, so our system could potentially be available, but again, I would advise you not to try to run a used one.

Best,
Drew

I am an easy-going and friendly German girl looking for some fun people to share accomodation during my Study Abroad at ECU Mt Lawley campus from July 13th.
I am social, tidy, respectul of other people's belongings, can have a good laugh but can also keep to myself.
I have travelled through NZ and OZ for 9 months before and I'm looking forward to being back and meeting new people!
Room should be within walking distance or not too long a bus ride from Mt Lawley campus.

This is the best one yet.
