View Full Version : Anyone Problems with the CP4226 calipers from AP racing?

we use the CP4226 calipers now for four years. we use them for both the rear and the front because of their light weight (Yes Delft it ishttp://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) but we have to ran a line pressure of about 85 bar (1140 psi) in the front!! in 2003 year AP said they were deflection tested for 2000 psi, in 2004 AP said that they where only tested for 1140 psi and now on the site they say they maximum is 1000 psi http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

the calipers are visually flexing when the pedal is pushed on our car...

we also have difficulties bleeding the brake system of most of our previous cars; don't know if the caliper is the problem??

what experiences do other teams have with these calipers?? and what pressure are you running on?

What knocked you guys out of the endurance at FS?

We ran them on the rear of the 06 car, other than the bleeding thing we never had a problem. But we never get close to 1000psi. This year we decided to run something else because of the price of the 4226.

in England the bleeding nipple in the front caliper came loose... in germany we had no problems and finished 3rd overal.

what are you running this year, because I can't really find a suitable replacement for the CP4226; it must be able to handle more than 1000psi and must not cost more than the AP's??

When speaking with the guys from AP Racing, i was told that the calipers were used for the rear of a GP superbike, and that they are not there to brake the bike, but to modulate the braking during cornering,

Check on the AP Racing website, the important information is listed under a section titled Formula Student.

The line pressure used one the GP bike is 200-300 PSI, so the front pressure of our car would for sure make the caliper flex undesirably. We plan on using the 4226 on the rear however decided not to use them on the front because of the very small pad area which would most likely lead to brake fade at high temps,

we have switched to the brembo p 34g. we have been running them on the front for a little while. it is decently light although i think they are about a pound to half a pound heavier than the 4226. but they cost $100 a piece. they have an ok pad selection, but they are not by any means the perfect caliper. they don't draw back very well, and they are pretty bulky.
