Any preferred vendors out there? I know Mcmaster-Carr is a last resort but they seem to have the best price on what we need. The machine shop doesn't have any surplus with the geometry we need either...

We used speedy metals for a coupling of things in the past.

We have Samuel Metals (http://www.samuel.com/en/Pages/default.aspx) as one of our sponsors, and buy a lot of the stuff we can not normally get from the campus machine shop there. Basically, our contact with them here in town is able to search around for offcuts and occasionally large blocks to ship in and sell to us at cost. Of course, "large blocks" for us are usually pieces that are way too small to use in an industrial application, so they are happy to get rid of the stuff we buy. They have service centers in most Canadian and American cities, so try giving them a call.

Aircraft Spruce (http://www.aircraftspruce.ca/menus/me/aluminum.html) also has lots of specialty aluminum stuff, but can be a little expensive for some things.

I believe there was a thread about this quite a while back (like a few years), but it had some good stuff in it too.

We have a local shop that we get things from. Likely there's a shop near you that sells metals and may even give you a discount.
