Hey guys, I´ve heard some rumors about SolidWorks giving free licenses to Formula SAE teams, is this true? If it is true, what kind of licenses do they give? How can we get a hold of one? Our uni´s been having some trouble with ProE licenses, so we need to change our software a.s.a.p.
Thanks for the help.

Yes, they give away a free student edition to teams, email:
Joseph Wilkie <joewilkie@solidworks.com>
tell him who you are and they he will send you a CD, not sure whether its only good for a year or not since I now have 05 which I aquired by other means. Joe is a cool guy that will help you with some of your questions if you have any.

Thanks for the plug, guys. In recent years we have provided a small supply of the SolidWorks Student Edition with COSMOS to various teams whose schools are already using SolidWorks software. This is meant as a way of further supporting our customers and providing a convenient way for the students on the teams to use the software on their laptops.
The COSMOS suite includes COSMOS/Works Professional (FEA), COSMOS/FloWorks (CFD), and COSMOS/Motion (Kinematics using ADAMS). All COSMOS products are fully integrated into the SolidWorks product, so no data translation or saving/opening in another package is needed. We've also got the best weldment package out there with the 2005-2006 version for doing complete structural tubing.
This fall we plan to introduce a special bundle for FSAE that will include SolidWorks as well as some key partner products that we are selecting based on interviews at last month's championship event. I'll be happy to post an update once it's available. You can also contact me directly and include your school state, and I'll put you in touch with the appropriate rep for your area.
We are big fans of FSAE, and appreciate how so many of you have helped us show our products in a great light!
