Hi all
I am member of Fesb racing team and this year we will compete in Italy

Question about passing cables through firewall

http://postimg.org/image/vbn94fzrv/

Is this type of gromets acceptible?

All cables will be thermo isolated, and will tigthly fit inside the gromet. And in the end small gaps will be filled with thermo resistant silicon, so no fluids or fire can pass inside firewall

Will this be ok for the judges?

Thanks

The best way would be to put a connector there as it implies you can pull out the front and the rear of the loom separately to paint, strip change something on the car.

Secondly, the aeronautics industry has made a large effort to create wiring standards to avoid wiring looms on airplanes breaking.
http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_...ILE/Chapter%2011.pdf (http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAdvisoryCircular.nsf/list/AC%2043.13-1B/$FILE/Chapter%2011.pdf)

is a good place to start. After that there are a bunch of army standards that will give more indication, but I leave that to you.

The question you should be asking is not whether it's ok for the judges but whether your loom will survive an entire year while chaffing on what look like hard rubber grommets and whether that could Jeopardize your endurance

Have a nice one

You can also use watertight conduit fitting (Cable gland). Such as these http://damencnc.com/images/pro.../CableGlandBlack.jpg (http://damencnc.com/images/products/CableGlandBlack.jpg)

They are pretty inexpensive (a few bucks at most) and can be found in any good electrical store (and on mcmaster). They are completely airtight, we use them on a vaccuum catch can for composites. It grips really good so the cables won't wear down on the fitting.

Aircraft spruce even has anodized aluminum for control cables such as the throttle wire.

But if you want to know if any of this solution is ok with the judges you should ask the committee!
