Button head cap screws do not meet the requirements of B.14.1 and will not be accepted for FSAE in critical locations. As one of the button head cap screw manufactures states on their website “This product is designed for light fastening applications only. Do not use it in critical high strength applications where a socket head cap screw should be used.”
The FSAE Rules Committee has received several SEFs that mentioned the use of button head cap screws and we want to remind teams that they may not be used in any strength critical application. This includes those applications mentioned in B.14.1 or any other application where a minimum size and grade is mentioned in the Rules.
