Hey everyone,
We just got our hands on one of Scotty's new MKII differentials. We're interested in getting the bearings off to press them into their diff plates, and we're running into some trouble.
Has anyone had any luck pulling them off? I'm assuming you pull off the six T50 torx bolts on either side, but they're tight as all hell. Are they Loctited?
Best,
Rob

When I got mine, i just took off the sprocket hat and heated up my diff mounts and pushed them on because i did not want to unseal the diff to take the bearings off. I did definitely feel like those were loctited. I could not hold the diff tight enough to get them loose.

I just got a hold of him - each bolt is held on by blue 60 ft-lb Loctite. Apparently it's not too difficult to remove the ends, but the last thing I want to do is jack up a $3k diff.
How tight is your interference fit onto the bearings? Did you make any sort of support for the other side or did you just slip them on?
I don't want to jack them up either.

It is a very light press... I actually squeeze the two on in the vice with soft jaws. The key is the keep the bearing from going on crooked....
Call me if ya need to.....

I've got roughly a .0015" press fit maybe slightly less depending on the measurement, seems to work well.
What I did was actually an accident, but worked very well. When we bought the aluminum for our diff mounts, it actually ended up being slightly thicker than we ordered the metal to be. We had the profile water jetted then machined the bearing race. When the bearing race was machined there was a small lip at the bottom which aligns the diff mount on the bearing pretty well. Then with a small amount of heat (you don't need much) the diff mount can be tapped on.

On a related note, I am trying to put the snap rings in that hold the tulips on and I cannot seem to make them seat properly. It is almost like the tulip is too long or the snap ring is too thick. Just wondering if anyone else has ran into this problem?

I put them in the surface grinder and took them down a bit, only way I could get them in.
