Do the front/main roll hoops need to connect at the bottom of the frame back to the other side of the lower roll hoop, with tubing of the same wall thickness (0.095")? Having trouble finding a specific rule on this.

Thanks,
-Adam

Still can't find the answer. Any thoughts?

....I really don't know what you are specifically referring to. Can you draw something to illustrate what you are talking about?

I am almost certain they do not. You are speaking about a tube that runs laterally to connect between the lower front roll hoop and another one that runs laterally to connect between the lower rear roll hoop, correct? I believe I used .049 wall last year, but I will check to be certain

One requirement is that the tubes cannot pass lower than the bottom plane of the chassis, but I do not have a rulebook in front of me at the moment.

Make sure to check the 2013 rulebook draft and you are prepared to make changes to your design in case those rules go into effect. It is posted a few pages back.

And as always, if in doubt, send an email to the rules committee. You probably would have had an answer by now if you would have.

Sorry for the confusing explanation. Below is a picture of what I'm talking about.

Shown is an example of a main roll hoop. Does the red tube at the bottom of the frame, have to be the same wall thickness (0.095") as the rest of the roll hoop?

No, I just checked and I used .049 last year on both the front and rear.

Roundabout,
The tube you show in red is a non-regulated tube UNLESS you attach the driver's safety harness to it OR it carries a load from the safety harness. In that case it becomes a regulated tube and needs to be 1.00" OD x 0.065" wall.

From my understanding, except for the Main Roll Hoop, and Front Roll Hoop, you can use pretty much ANYTHING to finish the rest of the frame, as long as it is safe, and you fill out the SES and get approval.
