Whats better using AL5056 or Nomex? I found that 8.1pcf AL is equivalent to 9pcf Nomex. And AL is 100 dollars cheaper per sheet then nomex? Does it sound too good to be true or are there flaws in AL.
I saw this too and yep, Al is that much better. The shear loading of Al can't be beat. If you don't need as much shear loading but need a higher compressive load, try looking at end-grain balsa.
for coke cans, i definatley prefer AL over carbon. you dont want to be sipping down some carbon splinters.
oh, wait, what are you going to use it for?

We need high in plane modulus. And Strength.

You mean monocoque. You're going to want to spell that one right.

HAHA, very true.
I knew what he meant. Yeah, you'll want to run a high shear modulus core in your sandwich. Al is your best bet. The only thing that will beat out Al in shear is the reinforced carbon honeycomb... and there's a reason why Hexcel puts a $$$ (seriously, they have $$$) in the cost column.
