Hi all,

Where do you buy your merge collector(4-1) for your exhaust system? Do you build it yourself? I have done a lot of research, but I couldn't find a merge collector with a 1 3/8" inlet and a 2" outlet.

Thanks

I don't know what the outlet diameter here is, but the price is right:

Burn's Stainless (http://www.burnsstainless.com) can custom make just about anything. They are quite expensive but have the best reputation and top notch quality products.

Burns Stainless probably has what you need, but from what I've heard getting them to ship to Canada is a pain in the wallet.

I wanna say the ss header outlet is 2.25". However it might be 2". Either way we had to to modify it to 2.5" for our Yoshi.

SS-headers is a good company to deal with and thier products are quality. I'm sure they could make one with a 2" outlet if you asked.

I just need enough to tide me over until I need more.

Burns does do some incredible work, but unless money is no object for you, they're outlandishly expensive. Compare $27(non-parallel) and $68(parallel) for mild steel ones from SS to $241 from Burns! I just can't justify a 300% cost difference. Both should put one together to your specs.

We don't have a lot money to put on our collector, so Burns ones are really too expensive for us. Last year, we bought a complete headers from a 80's bikes for like 35$CAD and just kept the collector. It was really cheap and worked great, but this year, our headers will have 1 3/8" pipe instead of 1 1/2" and we also need a different outlet diameter. The SS parallel collector could be a good option, but (67$US+ shipping + customs)*currency=$$$$CAD is still very expensive for us.http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gifI think that I will continue searching in junkyard to find a collector that fit our dimensions, and if I find nothing, than we will buy a SS collector.

Thanks for your help guys!

Our collecter we made out of sheet steel, hammered into shape around the four pipes, and welded into a cone. If you have someone on your team who can weld, it seems to work very well.

You can save some time if you're making your own by getting the plain collectors they sell at the bottom of the page for $6.40. I think its a preformed cone-to-cloverleaf shape. You converge your tubes and weld them together then weld the collector around them.

Did SPD give you a good price break?

yeah, we only bought some manderal bends and straights though. They gave em to us at like %50 off. Give em a call and find out. They said they deal with other fsae teams and give them the same discount.

why not make them yourself
by the bends, ie convergent angle of collector, cut down centre, weld and walla, you have cheap as collector!
