We got locked out of our engineering building this weekend and had to leave the Lehigh Formula SAE car at someone's house. Someone decided to steal the nose cone and one (yes, one) spark plug wire. I don't give a damn about the wire but the bodywork for that car took us over a month and cost me $300 just out of my pocket. I know this is a long shot but if any one ever comes across it please let me know... and give me an address because I am way beyond fucking pissed.
Nose cone is blue and white with a GM decal on it, and is made from special impact absorbing foam. It is probably decorating some dickbag's mantle as I speak.

Having spent about 300+ hours total in 2001, 2002 and a bit of 2003 on body fabrication, you have my condolences. I see people touch the body the wrong way, I get steamed...which luckily has expressed itself so far as polite discussion about how much time I spent making the damn thing vs. throttling them.
If someone stole it, I'd be more that a bit pissed off. Hope you get it back in one piece.

Some dumbass freshman from stole U of Waterloos side pod during one of the "field trips".
It ended up being tossed around our heat engines lab until it was found and returned to them.
Stupid stuff happens more often than you think.

- the problem with the world is stupidity. i'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety lables off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Yeah, having stuff stolen from your team has to be one of the worst things.
Our shop is in a parking structure seperated by chain link fence and seems to get broken into frequently. We have lost air compressors, $500 worth of aluminum stock, our TIG welder, I could list so many things. Basically we have been told that we can't do much about it and just to deal with it.

I think you guys should recruit underclassmen for guard duty... issue them shotguns and woe betide anyone who tries to break in!

Easy way to find these guys who steal stuff. Get a nice sport bike from one of your team members, remove the chain. Leave bike running in area where your stuff is usually stolen. Set up post from a distance with shot gun. Wait for the fun to begin!
