hi ppl !!
what is the meaning of :"allowable steering system freeplay is limited to 7 degrees total measured at the steering wheel"?
please correct me if i am wrong...i think it means that the limit for the steering wheel to rotate for absolute no movement of the front wheels is 7 degrees..

Hi everybody!!
what are the major reasons for exixtance of freeplay in the steerin system?.....
Is it because of the freeplay in the ball joints and tie rods???
And what are the possible ways to eradicate excessive freeplay in the steering .

I'd imagine it will vary depending on your setup and the parts you use. We find our freeplay (not insignificant) comes from:
- UJ's
- Rack
- rod ends
in that order. then again if we put an old rod end in that becomes worse than the rack. Our UJ's are certainly where most of the play comes from.
Just lock off parts of your system and you can identify sources of play quite easily.
