For a little while now we've had a webcam near our area. Its pretty cool shit, you can pan around, zoom right in and look anywhere in a semisphere.

Anyway our car is ~90% complete, we'll be driving soon.

Go for motion jpeg, single camera if you've got a reasonable connection, it will ask to install a little codec thing the first time you go there.

We're presets 6 and 8, presets 1-3 are the T4 shock tunnel (hypersonics - scramjets and stuff).

Formula Ford's, a bit worn, 12 for $100.

You can see the 2002 car in the far right corner, its a bit hard with the roller door though.

They're purly testing and training tyres... regulation Avon Formula Ford tyres.

We're using R25A's for racing which are near the computers all bagged up.

That is like the best thing I have ever seen. Great work.

We'd love to put one in our workshop if we weren't so worried about incriminating ourselves any further.

On that note plenty of video of windtunnel shenanigans including our new Human Powered Vehicle dubbed the "sexicle". Cos its got 6 wheels, of course.

Hey Frank,

Did you guys manage to get that 2" gap between the driver's helmet and the line between the roll hoops? Unfortunately I had to log off to do other work so didn;t see the conclusion.

Was just talking to Steve from Swinburne who was also watching at the time and we've decided that you need to put a textbox on the webcam page so that viewers can type up comments or suggestions and have them come up on a screen near the camera.

Please also apologize to the poor guy who I was trying to psyche out the other day by following him everywhere with the camera. He ended us looking over his shoulder everywhere he went!

Dam webcam... I think I spend more time watching your shop than working in mine.

Scott Wordley

Its interesting to hear you guys actually look at it ... I'm interest to know how much it actually gets used.

The text box would be really cool, bit hard to do though.

OMG Gug,

we all get "big brother" syndrome now and then already....

seriously, the cam has benefits...

check who's in the shop
inspect parts from home
refresh you're mind of what the car looks like as you're designing from home
ring up Pat and ask "Pat can you check this out pleeeease...." http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Like Scott was saying before though, it can be very unnerving sometimes, when the "eye" follows you.. you get a bit wary of scratching your nuts when it's looking at you

we sometimes giggle of the thought of a microphone "bleeep..bleep bleepin bleep"

the girlfriends also get to check up on us

i guess we're sometimes kinda hoping we "psyche the opponents out".. but really fear that people are laughing at us http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

anyhow, it's an interesting experiment to say the least, and sits well with our (relatively) transparent attitude toward what we do, and willingness to share information

we didn't ask for it.. it came along one day.. an initiative of the IT guy in the department, Steve, a top bloke

i guess if we whined enough they might take it away, but we're learning to deal with it

regards

Frank

wow, that's awesome. the bandwith use must be intense, as well as the cost and setup of the camera. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
