Hey everyone,
Cal Poly Pomona has asked me to look into starting a club for So Cal teams in order to organize, coordinate and host SCCA solo 2 events.
This would serve 3 purposes:
1: track time!! i.e. practice events with access to Cal Clubs rescources (cones, timing system, venues, etc..)
2: potential fund raiser for the teams involved (cal poly has made a grip of cash by hosting practice/race weekends in the past)
3: great scheduling tool for building a car. using test weekends as milestones for the project is a great motivator....
My plan is to bring together Alums from local teams to run the club and represent at Cal Club meetings. This avoids the dreaded diploma induced loss of personnel. Cal Poly had a club run soley by team members in the past, but it was too much for them to handle.
If interested please reply to this post, at which point we can take the discussion off line.
This goes for current teams and local alums....
Cheers,
Wingman

The team over here at USC is definitely interested in autoxing with the socal schools more often. it's always tough getting testing and driver training time, so this would be a blessing. Not to mention we're having a terrible time raising money...wouldn't mind if it happened to make the socal schools some money as well. I don't know off hand of any local alumni that would have time to represent us, but I will look into that. Please keep us updated on the club progress, and let us know if there's anything we can do.
Now if only we could get SAE to host a seperate west coast event...

Southern Cali folks, we are attending the autocross this weekend (sorry 'bout the short notice) at California Speedway.
Refer to www.solo2.com (http://www.solo2.com) for all the details.

Although we will not be able to go to the competition this weekend, Cal State Long Beach is very interested in participating with other so-cal schools. Please email me if any schools would like to meet to organize a practice.

The University of California Irvine is also interested in any of the above suggestions. Maybe that extra funding will help us get a car working BEFORE competition this time around.

Hey So Cal teams!
There's a two day practice at Norton Air Force Base way out yonder in our direction, August 9th and 10th. We're already planning on bringing out our car for both days, and any other formula cars young and old would be a welcomed sight!
Again, www.solo2.com (http://www.solo2.com) has all of the information.
Cheers,

Hello everyone,
This is Wingman
well it's time to get the ball rolling for So Cal FSAE teams at local auto-crosses.
I am coordinating with an SCCA club to get you guys into a 2 day practice scheduled for Sept 13/14 at Cal Speedway in Fontana
cost will be between 40 and 60 bucks per day per
driver and will give you 10 to 15 laps per day per
driver per day. you can participate one or both days but I need to know ASAP because space is limited
Even if you don't have a car running, you should bring
your team out to watch and learn...
there is no better experience than track time in any form....
I look forward to hearing from you....
Cheers,
Wingman

UCSD SAE is experiencing a rebirth (see: http://maemail.ucsd.edu/~sae). We have a car that never made it to competition in 2001 and are working on the design of a new car for 2004.
I would like to include our team in the SoCal events.

We indicated earlier we might make it, but we have to decline at this point.
Hope enough teams make it out!

OK Denny,
Good Luck at Nationals!!
I wish Cal Poly Pomona would have had the funds for Nationals this year...but it's not to be...
I'm sure UTA will have a tough car to beat as always...
Have a blast, and make sure to check out those A-mod Cars (You know, the ones with the wings.... http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
