The registration page at the SAE website is up. I know that registration is not supposed to be open until Oct.1. I could not register though. has anyone successfully registered? As a first year team, we really want to get in.

The registration page is up because they use it as registration for all other events too. Don't worry, it won't open until its scheduled date. Last year it took about 3 months for the roster to fill up, so you should be fine. Just be ready on Oct. 1st.

Can someone please post a direct link to the 2004 registration page? we have tried following the instrutions, but cannot seem to find the event info button or the registration page. Also, is there anything else we might be missing (do you have to be logged in to see it or something else?)?

Auburn is the same with the number 11. Maybe not quite the history, but since our first year we had number 11. The two years without it, 1999 and 2001, are the ONLY two years Auburn failed endurance. And in 2001, who got 11? Cornell, and they won with it. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

We finally broke the bad luck streak with the #40 in 2003. Now we don't have to worry about numbers. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif We are #5. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well, #11 was just a typo, we figured. Even when we had #1, we wanted #27. At least it went to a Canadian school, although in all fairness it should've perhaps been given to Ecole Polytechnique or something.

#9 isn't so bad. Certainly not what we wanted but better than we deserved, in my opinion.

I don't know what the experience of others was, but I don't remmeber being asked to specify a number for the car.

Thus it has given Birmingham #119, which was our number in 2000, I'm not sure if that was coincidence or not though, because we competed in FSAE 2002.

Was #127 Wollongong's number last year?

The numbers are given in order of registration, starting with #11. The top ten from the previous year get thier finishing position. There must be a glitch in SAE's system that made Wollongon 127 instead of #1.

Well, let's see, as of 2001, provincial populations were:

Newfoundland: 512,930 (1 team)
Quebec: 7,237,479 (8 teams)
Ontario: 11,410,046 (9 teams)

That gives us almost twice as many per capita!:-)

Garbo

Don't tempt me... I could pull out a figure for just the city of Montreal. 4-5 teams and a population of 2-2.5 million!!!

Hi Dave,

Monash are trying desperately to get registered, but it appears as though we were just too late. The SAE will not extend their 140 team limit, and they don't have a waitlist. Apparently the 140 team limit includes an expected drop out number already.

We are quite disappointed by this as I had numerous difficulties with the SAE website, and like you were forced to go through Pat to get anything done. Unfortunately we were half a day too late in taking this option.

We will find a way to get in, we wont give up and are still planning for that. Hopefully come December if we perform at the level that we should, they will be compelled to accept us.

How is the car coming??

See you in Tailem,

Dave Riley

Hi Al,

Thats a real shame. Hopefully something will change.. Pat did seem pretty confident he could get you guys in. Like you say, the website is not really set up for new overseas teams.

We were pretty lucky to get in... I think I realised on Thursday night that 137 teams had already rego'd and got emailing, smsing etc. Lucky Pat was still up, and rego was full by the next day, as you know.

Our car is getting there.. we've had holdups on a couple of key parts which have stopped us getting out on track but we should be running at a similar time to 2002. It's very yellow... we've definitely built another 'show car' as someone from Uni of Sydney put it last year! No pics yet, wait till our launch.

We're a bit worried about you guys though, with all your testing time! http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

See you in sunny South Australia,

The real one looks similar, but without the patterns down the side. It's all yellow, with blue steel bits.

I might try and sort out a real pic, if you're lucky...

Cheers

Hey everyone,

We here at U of Michigan -Dearborn, also have missed the cut on the reg. deadline. We were having some troubles as well getting in. I was going to ask Al who he had talked to regarding the non existence of a waiting list. Any info regarding this, would greatly be appreciated.

thanks

Just out of curiosity, what sort of problems did teams have while registering? Everything went very smooth for us, but we registered within the first day. Did the web site have troubles later?

The login process at SAE is a bit screwy sometimes...it had trouble recognizing my ID when I was (very frantically) trying to register our team.

I figured it was a local cookie problem, but later on I had the same thing happen on another machine. Go figure.

i've heard a lot of teams missed the deadline. If you look at the list there's a large overseas contingent not from North America.

I've also had emails to me regarding budgeting for Formula Student in the UK........are more teams heading there because of the 140car cap?

There probably won't be a waiting list as the organizers plan for 30% of the teams to not make it....they have enough logistics and volunteers to have an event for 140 minus 30% of the cars.

What other teams didn't make registration?

They need to do it baja style with 3 or 4 regionaal comps and a national final. invite the top 30 from the regionals to the final. my 2 cents

Univ. of Michigan Dearborn didnt make registration. And there seems to be no waiting list either eh?

I have heard they are trying to do a Formula east and west. But that wont be till 05 at the earliest.

What is the budget for Formula Student in the UK?

I couldn't imaging the flogging I would take if we hadn't made the registration deadline. I took some heat for us being #62 instead of #11!

Us also, we had problems registering, but we made it 85th just 18 hours after the opening of the registration!!! Wow, it seems it was a race to whom will register first!!

This year, our school granted enough budget for us to participate to Detroit, as usual, and also a serious amount to greatly consider going overseas to FS 2004 after proposing this event to our school director. We are actually looking through our sponsors to find extra money to made it in England.

So for us, this year is FSAE and FS 2004. Toronto, are you interested this year???

See ya in Detroit everybody and maybe England...

Jean,

I got your email. Just been very busy with chassis construction and a new motor.

Yes, we will be defending the UK title again this year. Our budget isn't confirmed yet.......as it never really is.....but we will for sure go. There is no way our Dean won't let us defend our title!

I'm looking forward to both Detroit and the UK this year. Our new car is well on it's way.
