Nicki,
There is a really good history document (.pdf file from memory) on the US FSAE site. It has a year by year documentation of the event from the first event.
You will be amazed at the technical progression over 20 odd years.
In fact, the other day I was looking at the tech submissions and my pix from the US event four years ago and can hardly believe the progress!
PDR

The older I get, the faster I was.

I believe the document in question was written by Dean case some years back.

Mini-Indy was in 1979 at the University of Houston. (I competed as a student.)

FSAE as conceived by Ron Matthews at the University of Texas started in 1981.
