About 50 metres from it, there's a road track where they do KTM X-Bow driver training etc.

List of the participating teams:
http://www.fsaustria.at/index.php?id=20&L=1
14 out of 24 are from... guess which country. Two teams from the waiting list chose the wrong country.
AMZ is looking forward to competing against the Austrian teams, ETS, Stuggi etc.
I'm assuming that several international teams are going directly from Hockenheim to Melk, we're planning the same.

Well, what did you expect, with almost 60 Teams located in guess which country (most of them in the south of it) and only a fraction of this figure elsewhere around ;-)
Anyway, after the disappointing result of the registration for FS regarding my team, we are very glad to have a slot at the FS Austria event!
Big thanks to the organisers of this event, it's gonna be awesome!

Way to give it away Colton. At FSG we greased our muffler bearings a little too much, and you all know the result. That muffler is going nowhere at FSA.

Some updates from the first Austrian competition at the Wachauring-Melk. The organisers did a very good job.
Location is awesome. In Autocross the track was damp, but for Acceleration there were best conditions. The pits are in tents. All teams got stickers for Scrutineering, Tilt, Noise, Brake. They also do the weight distribution. RedBull for free. Background music. You see a very relaxed competition.

They also did a special event instead of the Cost event. 25points for the car with the highest end speed at Acceleration and 25points directly after that -> deceleration within 25m with the shortest braking distance. Nice idea!

Hello FSTOTAL,
can you elaborate on the special event? I cannot quite grasp how the deceleration measurement is done. My first understanding was that you have only 25m to stop the car but that would be impossible from speeds over 100 km/h.

The calculation formula included the top speed after 75m and the length of the braking distance after those 75m. You have to choose your speed very carefully. For example we had a speed of 93.5 km/h and a braking distance of 20.3m. I think 100km/h should be possible if the driver hits the pedal to the right time

Congratulations to everyone and thanks for an awesome event. The location is really amazing, and the organization was great for a first year event.
The whole event is definitely more laid back as well. With only 24 teams competing you've got lots of time to chat with each other and check out the cars. The special event was also great since it forced teams to adapt their car to a toally different challenge. It might be cool to change the special event every year for this reason.
Media coverage was also great at the event. They put together a video for each day, including interviews with the teams and footage from each event. Twitter updates and the announcer during the autocross and endurance were also nice touches.
Anyway on behalf of OSU, thanks for the great competition.

@trevor:
would be cool but I do not think that it will happen that they will do a special event next year. The organisers want to improve the comp to a fully accepted FS comp. And so it should follow the rules.
However, maybe the FSA and FSG could have one cost report for both comp. So they would save a lot of time for the Judges and for the students.
It was an amazing comp:
The weather friday and saturday, the AutoX-track, the atmosphere on camp site and in the pits.
The organisers did a great job. I liked the idea of having for the first three in every disciplines a trophy - that was really nice.
Congrats to Oregon for an outstanding performance and an outstanding driver in an outstanding car. Ravensburg was also pretty quick. So congrats to them.
Hopefully see all the teams again last year and thanks to Munich for beer. Augustiner Bräu rules!
Best regards from Graz,
Thomas

Great Job OSU and Ravensburg!
I haven't really heard much from the people who helped us with our car from our German counterparts, especially Johannes who helped us extensively with the selection and design process of our intake, exhaust and cams... Couldn't have done it with out you!
I guess we set the benchmark pretty high, so next year's car will have to be twice as good..

Does this mean we are sticking with the Single Cylinder? In case you are wondering, there is definetly more power lurking in that little Honda...

I really enjoyed this event at a great location. It was just a bit exhausting driving directly from Hockenheim to Vienna, fixing the car there and then driving to Melk. Thank you guys from TU Wien for your hospitality.
Here you find a video of my winning acceleration run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9ZbG0jwgsc
Looking at the scoring of the special event, it seems that for 25 points in deceleration, a car went from 35 to 0 km/h within 2 m. The same car got only 9 points for deceleration in its best run which counts. Not sure what happened, but those 35.294 km/h and 2.05 m don't seem right. All deceleration scores for good runs are below 15 points.
The track for autocross and endurance was really nice. The hot weather and elevation changes lead to some overheated cooling systems and brakes, and showed some nice driving.

Is there any news on that? I really liked the atmosphere at this event, it was very professionally organised and we had loads of fun there (despite our engine blow-up in endurance...)
I'd be very more than happy to see this cometition again next year!
