Seems as though most teams use these things.

We made our own and are surprised at just how useful it is, (we did a mock chassis as well).

My question..

Do you make your own model?

or

Do you download / buy / get it as part of an "add in" ???

We use CATIA v5, which has a great human builder module, complete with parameterized manikins (setting up a 95th percentile pilot is a breeze) and inverse kinematics. Our current frame was built without these aids, however.

I think a good physical template is essential, though, virtual space alone might make it difficult to set up a truly natural posture (at least with CATIA's zillion parameters and angles) without a background in ergonomics.

thx mark,

i agree,

although acurate for "fit", they dont ensure "comfort"

We did ours with a shadow traced on the wall then measured the major joint locations. We projected these out in 3d (mirrored after) and connected most of the points with cylinders.

I think we'll end up doing the same thing again this year, but I'll start with a much more reclined position. Now that my I-deas modelling skill are up to par, it should be fully adjustable/scalable.
