Anyone have any information on proceedures for removing 5th&6th gear? How much weight will this save, and will it have any negative implifications that I havent forseen?
Thanks!

Depends on how far you want to go. There is probably a pound or two if you want to turn the teeth off the 1-4 and 2-3 sliders that actuate 5th and 6th, as well as turning the teeth off the shaft. Just removing the gears is going to be a small weight savings and I decided its just not worth it.

I just need enough to tide me over until I need more.
anyone pitch 1st gear as well? its to late for this years car, but if i ditch 5+6 on the next car, i might as well ditch first right?

ditching 1st gear is as easy as ditching 5th or 6th, you just need to work out what ratio you want to be running with and that will dictate which gears you need and those you dont
we've taken out 1st and 6th gears with no major dramas, just make sure its reassembled with the right spacers and youll be sorted

What engines have people sucessfully removed gears from? What do you mean by reassembling with the right spacers?

ive done it to an F4, pretty sure charlies got the F4i figured out
by spacers, i mean if you remove a gear you may have an empty space where that was, replacing it with a spacer or making sure the remaining gears are all in the correct positions will make sure that your gearbox still works http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
