View Full Version : Car Stands
I've seen these real nice car stands used by Wollongong, Ohio State and others for displaying their cars. I was curious if these were made or bought. Here's a pic of Wollongong using it for their 03.

We made a set for our 03, but it would be nice if they were available for purchasing. If you have any info, Thanx.

your picture still isn't here dude, but i think i know what you are talking about. we made a similar set ourselves for displaying our car at motorshows etc. we were going to use them at the comp for design etc, but we used our "Wheelie thing" instead (people at the comp will know what i mean). our car sits on it in our workshop, you can see it on the webcam

Yeah we have been using them since 2001. They are very simple to make, should only take a couple of hours.
We did something similar to what I think you're talking about.

Again, should only take a few hours.

Ours are remarkably low-tech and less beefy. Can't say for certain since I'm not at the lab or anything, but I'd guess they're 1" OD .049" square tube, one U-shaped two-point support for the middle "butt bar" and one single-point support for the rear bay.
Definitely homemade, very obvious that. But hey, they work and have since I've been here, which is going on forever now.
Certainly a car stand is something that a car team can build in seconds. If you have more money than time, go ahead and buy one, but I'd imagine most teams (including ours) find the former to be a greater constraining resource.
