I'm trying to gauge interest on which schools would want to come down for a couple of days of racing and testing in the middle of March.
Currently it looks like we can get the local SCCA region to host the "event" and thus run under their insurance, which makes it MUCH easier to get a good site to run at.
I'm looking at a couple of sites locally to find one that approximates the surface in detroit as closely as possible. We don't have a lot of that brown asphalt down here, but I'm thinking runway concrete may be as close as we can get to the Detroit surface. As I understand it, the grip up there is somewhere between semi-rough grey ashpalt and concrete, leaning towards concrete.
The format will be fairly laid back. We'll setup a tight autocross course with timing(about as tight as the enduro track most likely). I'll work on getting section times, but it'll probably just be lap times measured. But really it'll be up to what the people that show up want to do, we'd all be there to test, develop, and compare. I may be able to get a couple of national champion autocrossers to hang out and help out - and show us how it's really done http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Anyhow, if you think you'll have a running car by mid march, and you might be interested, let me know.
It'll either be during our spring break(March 6th-13th), or the following weekend. For all the schools up in the cold the historical average temp down here is a high of 75 to low of 50
If there's enough demand we might be able to do it again right before competition.
