View Full Version : So what is something exciting about your car this year?

How about some teasers before competition guys?

Look for the UW-Madison car to have some new tricks up its sleeve with our trick uprights, and a new powerplant....plus our carbon-kevlar tow hitch.

A space heater.

Space heater huh? Is that ran off of the electrical system or a heater core? No room in our car for such a device, or drivers rely on a healthy serving of Taco Bell before driving and the "dutch oven" effect of the fire suit afterwards.

I think he's referring to the radiator fan being optionally ducted into the driver's compartment for those cold Michigan days. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The rain during last year's competition taught us many good lessons about car design and control. After going through some in-car video footage, we noticed that the car also experienced more body roll that expected. This year, we've decided to go with new tires as well as some extra weight.

We had to have the engine rebuilt though. After some laps on the endurance course last year, the engine was just not running well. We couldn't get it to pull the car faster than 55mph.

And finally, the 460ci box van received a fresh coat of white paint.

I'm not sure if anyone except for UW Madison people know what I'm talking about. All I remember is an ovation from the wonderful folks at UW-M after pulling back into the paddock.

See you in Michigan!

Hey Nam, I certainly remember what you were talking about. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif That van needs some new door handles too I'd guess. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

As for us, nothing very radical... But hopefully excellent in everything. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Cornell of course brings the same car year in, year out. We are lazy SOBs. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Big New Thing is custom dampers...housings and internals done in house. They're sweet.

At WWU this year, we're going to try having a few (150?) CNC parts on the car. No V8 though.

Enormous wings - they make last year's wings look small.

-Bottomless fuel tank
-Ejector seat
-Weight Inverter
-GPS Navigation
-Neon exhaust tip
-LED brake light that randomly displays funny and/or vulgar phrases
-Engine tuning that qualifies it as a ULEV
-Brakes
-Bullet resistant bodywork

I'd give you more, but I think the carbon monoxide fumes from the engine dyno may be interfering with my long term memory

jajajajaj....no dude, last year we weighted 742 pounds (first year). So 240 pounds put us around the 500's, our main goal for this year (lighter chasis, intake, powertrain system, a-arms and go on...)

was accidentally painted with "invisible" paint by the physics department and we lost it! Too bad for this year.
