I was wondering if anyone knows of a supplier that sells 7075 aluminum. We need about 2 feet of 3.5" OF 4" round bar and have yet to find any company in Calgary that sells it. I still have a few places to try, but it's looking pretty bleak.

Where you able to find a location somewhat local to you? They have franchises all over, and they all tend to be very knowledgeable, as well as having a huge selection of stuff in stock, in addition to being able to order just about anything.

I was able to find a ocal supplier, but the cost was way too high for our budget. I think it was nearly 700 CDN for only 2 ft of 3" round bar. So, we are not going to use the 7075 even though it is the ideal material.....oh well, maybe next year we will have a bit more money. Thanks for the help anyway.

Brent,
Don't give up yet.
There is a place in Vancouver call ABC Traders (604-278-1731, address is 2980 No.3 Road, Richmond). They are a scrap metal trader. They carry lots of off-cut 7075 and 7475, mostly in thick plates (2-4") and some rounds. They even have aluminum skinned honeycomb panels. They don't cut to size, you have to buy the whole piece (range from cubic inches to cubic feet sizes), but they sell them at $2 per pound (Boeing Surplus in Seattle sells the same material at U.S.$3 per pound). I don't think they will ship either. You need to get a friend in Vancouver to go pick out the require sizes for you. I built most of my A-Mod autox car with 7475 and 2024 from this place. Most of the round shapes where machined out of plate stock. They also have tons of thin sheets in 2024 and 6061, great for building tanks and skinning the chassis.
Another company you should contact is Avcorp, http://www.avcorp.com/. They are a Canadian aerospace contractor in Vancouver whom you might want to approach to secure as a sponsor. They use a lot of 7000 series aluminum in their projects and have lots of small off-cuts which they sell to ABC Traders as surplus. UBC's FSAE team got a whole stack of plates donated by them a few years ago and they still haven't finished using them after all these years.
Good luck.
Joe
