I know, way too late, but we finally got the money to order our 4130 for our frame. Just looking for what to expect on backorder times, and if anyone has ordered from spruce before.
Any first year teams still waiting on frame materials.

The Aircraft Spruce out here in California normally has everything we need in stock.

We're still way behind in our desing process. As such, we haven't ordered any parts yet. It looks like I'll be staying at school most of Christmas vacation building this car!

nam tran, you are right. we just recieved an email saying that they found most of our materials in a collection of warehouses, and out of 22 lengths of tube, only one was backordered. also, christopher, is mercer a first year team also?

Might try these guys:
The Dillsburg Aeroplane Works
Charles T. Vogelsong
114 Sawmill Road, Dillsburg, Pa 17019
Tel: 717/384-5865 Fax: 717/432-4589
They can be a bit of a pain to order from, but the prices are typically better than aircraft spruce. Shipping time is usually 4 or 5 days.

Technically, this is our second year as a university competing as there was a car built and raced in 1997. But that was so long a time ago that nobody except a couple of professors even remembers the project. The alumni from that team purchased the car and they have already graciously let some members of our team drive it at a local autocross!

As mentionied above Dillsburg Aeroplane Works is a great source also. If you can manage the trip to Central PA it is worth it. The place is pretty interesting as it is an old barn just completely filled with anything you would need to build a racecar. From tubing, sheetmetal, even AN hardware. Last year I went and we ran into another FSAE team there buying their tubing. They are a bit old fashioned there, no website, don't perfer to mail order stuff either, but will, because they are busy enough with walk-ins. Last time we stood there for an hour waiting, but again diffently worth the trip. Plus you can get them to chop the full lengths once and get longer pieces of tubing which leaves you with less scraps, providing you have a truck big enough to carry it.

Check out TW metals out of atlanta. I believe they have several distribution points through out the country. There prices are excellent and delivery is free if your a close to a distributor and your purchase is over 300$
