...and more specifically the driver's suit: the rules mention that "the suit shall be manufactured from one or more of the following accepted materials: Nomex, Kynol, FPT, IWS (wool), Fiberglass, Durette, Fypro, PBI, Proban and Kevlar".

Now, I've gotten a good deal on a G-Force suit which is compliant to SFI 3.2A/1 as per the rules, but it uses flame retardant cotton and only has a Nomex neck and cuffs. Is this acceptable? I suppose the SFI norm entails a certain level of fire safety, but do we still need to use a full Nomex suit?

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I'd hate to get to Detroit only to be disqualified, or pay tenfold for something we don't really need http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm not too sure about your specific question Marc, but you will find in Detroit that many teams will lend out equipment if otehr teams are missing something, or are having trouble with their cars. I know we borrowed and lent alot of items in 2003.

We went to competition last year with flame resistant cotton suits and had no problems. I am not saying that it is within the rules but the inspector we had looking at our suits had no problem with it.

As Brent said, however, other teams will loan you items if needed. In the autocross line a course worker decided that I needed a fire resistant hood before I could run. We didn't even own one and the Auburn team came through and had one brought to me within a few minutes so I didn't even have to get out of line. (Unfortunately there are also teams like the University of Utah that decided to modify the shocks they borrowed from us.)

Sam

Sorry about last years team messing up your shocks. They were all a bunch of idiots. They really didn't know what they were doing and sat around until January before they even got started building their car. Just so you know no one from last years team has returned this year so hopefully we have higher standards than last years team. Also if the shocks are ruined let me know and I will see if our team can reimburse you. This years team does not put up with the crap that they pulled last year

Joe,

Sorry about the comment, it was not meant to reflect poorly on this year's team. We had to start with a whole new team last year because the previous team had sufficiently angered everybody at our university.
