I have an old version of Mitchell's suspension programs (circa 1995) that I got when my school upgraded to new software. I cannot get the programs to run on my computer, using XP Home edition. I'm kinda dumb when it comes to this stuff...I know it's a DOS program, but when I click on the .exe file, it just flashes on the screen and then disappears. Anyone have any advice on how to get this program up and running? Mitchell's suggestion was to buy a new program.
Thanks,
Casey

right click on the executable,go to properties, there is a tab called compatability, it gives you options for which version of windows you want to use to "trick" the program. hope that helps.

Well, I changed the compatability, and now a blank black screen pops up, sits there for a minute, and disappears. Anyone else have suggestions or experience with this?

i think it would have originally run with the dos4gw extended stuff? when the program used to start up, did it say something like "dos4gw extended mode runtime", i cant quiet remember what it said. if it does, then i think it will not run on any win nt, win2k or xp computer. youll have to go find a win 98 or 95 computer.
if you want more info, try google for dos4gw compatability.

if microsoft sold used cars, then they would have no wheels or engine.

- if it isnt coming, you need a bigger tool.

We had a similar problem with the dos version of mitchell. I believe it is actually incapable of running on PCs with pentium II or greater.

We managed to run it on a P-III using a software called moslo132

Just serach for it on google and download it.
run moslo132.exe and extract the files into ur geometry directory.
goto geometry directory through command prompt, and type

"moslo /5 freebody.exe"

Hopefully this works

It looks like the Pentium II vs. III vs. 4 thing is it. I found out that we had to use moslo too. Looks like I might have to throw down for SusProg3D...looks like the money conversion is good now, too....anyone wanna find me a good deal shipping a new Holden Monaro coupe over here?....
Later,
Casey
PS...The only reason I wanted to use this program is 'cause I've used it before and I got it for free. I would strongly recommend getting a more user-friendly program than this one.

I tried all the above suggestions with no luck. I found a patch online and wrote a .bat file to execute it and Mitchell. It works on Xp, maybe others. You can find the 2 files you need here:

http://www.auburn.edu/~pingiii/Mitchell

put them in the SUSPENSION folder (where go.bat is)

I believe the patch here continues to run after Mitchell is closed. It hasn't caused me any problems but just be aware of that. You'll have to restart to stop the patch as far as I know.

Get a slower computer. Look around town for a crappy computer that will have running DOS and the Mitchel program as it's sole purpose. That's what we did, only cost us some miniscule token sum for the PC.
