Braking on the Sprocket

Hi,

I'm wondering what kind of sprocket is typically used for a sprocket which will be braked on?

I know aluminum can be used as a sprocket, and aluminum brake rotors (coated?) are used, but has anyone used an aluminum sprocket/rotor?
