I am having trouble determining the amount of energy absorbed by the crush zone. Should I be approaching this from an analytical or experimental method? Do the judges seem to prefer one way over the other? I appreciate any help that can be given on how to go about these calculations.

They prefer both of course, but analytical is not real, experimental is. So I imagine they prefer real data.
