Hi,
I'm new to this forum, although some of my team mates aren't.
Does anyone know how to measure or calculate the volumetric efficiency of an engine? I'm guessing you need flow meters, pressure transducers, temp sensors and the like hocked up to the inlet to the plenum, but I'm unsure. Furthering that how would you measure or calculate the mean and max gas velocity in the ports.
Thanks for your time.

All you need for the simple VE equation is RPM and CFM. Use a MAF sensor with the proper calibration factors. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yep- basically, you can find VE by doing CFM/(CID/1728*RPM/2), using the MAF to find CFM.

Thanx guys, but I apologise 4 my ignorance, whats a MAF sensor, what does it stand 4.

MAF= Mass Air Flow sensor, see this link for a quick description: http://www.kemparts.com/TechTalk/tt06.asp
