Bored and sorting through the MP3s, creating a car song playlist. What would you put on such a list? I've got about 50 so far...they're...well... I don't have 80% of what you would, since my music tastes are a bit eclectic (read: screwed up.) Just switched from Fred Eaglesmith to Ministry. Such segues cause are known in the state of California to cause epileptic fits in laboratory animals.

So, make some requests, I'll publish what I have sometime later with some recommendations.

Some car related tunes.

Cake - Going the distance
Metallica - Fuel
Gavin Rossdale - Adrenaline
Ministy - Jesus built my hotrod
Rob Zombie - Dragula
The Presidents of the USA - Lil' Dune Buggy
The Cardigans - Gran Turismo

Some of these work better than others, but anyway...

Without a doubt:

Cake - Race Car Ya-Yas
and that one song by Sugar Ray, can't think of the name...

Almost forgot, THE car song:

Waylon Jennings - Dukes of Hazzard Theme Song

Biased from attending the show last night here, but Fred Eaglesmith does numerous car songs, including 105, Pontiac, Lucille, Georgia Overdrive, Mighty Big Car, Alternator, and a few others I'm forgetting...and one on fencing cars that I hadn't heard before...

Americana roots/country/folk/bluegrass music done by Canadians. Gotta love it. The band does about 250 shows a year, starting to hop the pond too, confused the hell out of the Dutch a while back. Worthwhile show if they're in your area.

and of course... the theme to Knight Rider

How can you overlook all those SoCal car songs from the 60s. There was a whole genre of them, The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean etc, titles that come to mind are
Little old lady from Pasadena
Lil Deuce Coupe
Go Little Cobra (?)
Little GTO
Dead Mans Curve
Daddy took the TBird away
etc and etc,
Plus the original hot car song
Maybelline by Chuck Berry where the song tells of the old flathead Ford getting into detonation in the heat and is blown away by a Cadillac. The rain starts and the flathead cools....
"Cadillac lookin' like a ton of lead, a hundred and ten, half a mile ahead.
Cadillac lookin' like it's standin' still
when I caught Maybelline at the top of the hill".

Hey you students might not understand, but us old fogies do =]

How could anyone forget "Lowrider?" A classic that must be included. Another one might be "Fun, Fun, Fun" by the Beach Boys. I'm glad someone started a list of car songs... I've actually been looking to put one together so that we can all listen to it at the shop when we work on the Formula car. Keep the songs coming!

What about Mark Knopflers "Nazareth Speedway" on the 'Sailing to Philadelphia' album, a tale of a drivers year in the Indy car series.

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy !

what about DJ Keoki, Speed Racer, the x-rated version, of course.

Actually, one of my buddies got a PR package from BMW a while back and it came with a CD of tunes written and recorded for beemer. Guaranteed to increase your speed by 10km/h at least, intended or not!

There's a song I've heard that starts off with someone taking off in a straight line in a pretty sweet car, and goes into a jamiroquai(sp?) sounding song. (maybe it is jamiroquai) Anyone heard it before?

Jamiroquai, 'Travelling without moving'.... we concluded it was a Ferrari F40.. that sweet gated metal on metal noise during shifts... and the available-only-from-ferrari exhaust note... You only need the first 5 seconds again and again and again... sooooo sweet!

I`m almost certain that the car on the beginning of jamiroquai`s travelling without moving is a Lambo Diablo with paddle shift, but i could be wrong.

Good funky bass for the road.

I personnaly like any song that is designed specifically to make you drive faster wether its actually about a car or not.
But if it has to be about a car then why not have, little red corvette by prince, and its good to f**k too!!!!!!

Word to ya moms but i came to drop bombs!!!!!

Wow I guess I'm more of a rocker than techno fans but the CD would have to have:

Billy Squier - The Stroke
David Lee Roth - Yankee Rose
Dokken - In My Dreams
Drivin' & Cryin' - Fly Me Courageous
George Thorogood - I Drink Alone
Motley Crue - Too Young To Fall In Love
Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
Sammy Hagar - Let Sally Drive
Van Halen - Panama
Van Halen - Hot for Teacher
ZZ Top - Gimmie All You Loving
White Lion - Radar Love (Cover)
AC/DC - Thunderstruck
Alice Cooper - Feed my Frankenstein
Bryan Adams - Run to You
Bon Jovi - Bad Medicine
Def Leppard - Lady Strange
Def Leppard - Mirror, Mirror
Krokus - Stay Awake All Night
Meatloaf - Paradise by the Dashboard Lights
and more...

but then again, i'd have to put them on 8-track since GM didn't put CD players in Trans Ams in '79.

The very first Rock 'n' roll song is supposed to be Ike Turner's (Before Tina) song "Rocket 88", said to be inspired by the Oldsmobile Rocket 88 engine of the time.
I have held off posting this until today, when the last Oldsmobile rolls off the production line. A once well known brandname consigned to history.

Highway Star by Deep Purple
Beep Beep by The Playmates
Heading out to the Highway by Judas Priest
The Wanderer by Dion
Slow Ride by Foghat
Ramblin Man by The Allman Brothers
Bitchin' Camaro by The Dead Milkmen
Ragtop Deluxe by Molly Hatchet
GTO by Ronny And The Daytonas
The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena)by Jan And Dean
Drag City by Jan And Dean
On The Road Again by Willie Nelson
Drive my Car by The Beatles
Mustang Sally by Wilson Pickett
Hot Man by Tex Rubinowitz
Hey Little Cobra by The Rip Chords
Hopped Up Mustang by Arlen Sanders

All by the Beach Boys: I Get Around, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down, Fun Fun Fun, This Car of Mine, 409, Custom Machine

Sorry if the Beach Boys stuff is too obvious, but there were some that had not yet been mentioned.

I personally prefer the Johnny Bond version of Hot Rod Lincoln.

There's dozens more, it really depends on the style of music you prefer. I tend to lean heavy to the mid-to-late 60's stuff.

I believe the best music in a car when you are driving as fast as you can is some relaxing classical or jazz music.
