I'm curious to know how people are securing their safety harnesses. We have latch type mechanism that will latch onto a bent piece of 3/16 solid bar welded to the main roll hoop.

The Rules committee however, does not do the approval of the "way in which the harness is secured to the car". It is apparently the SCCA Safety Director. I was just wondering how other teams do it.....and if you think this is ok?

Our harness is the OMP Professional 6.3. Meets all FIA 8853/98 specs...and is brand new.

Any thoughts?

Just an offnote comment,

We went to a hill climb event the other day, and the scrutineers reminded us that (depending on the harness rating, and rules of competition) harnesses have a finite "life" and need to be replaced / refurbished / inspected after time to be legal.

It was something we never really thought about while purchasing the original harness.

So the moral is that you might want to check these sorts of things out before making a decision, you could save/lose money in the long run.

The FSAE rules are there, but when you build the first car, you're really only thinking about the comp, and not all the other types of racing you could / should be doing in the car.

Here's a rough CAD drawing of how we attach belts to chassis, and a pic.

Just curious if any other teams are using the usual eye bolt to attach your harness......

do any teams have experience using a positive locking device? that locks on to a 3/16 solid bar?
