Can anyone recommend a data logger for testing purposes? preferably sourcable in the UK,
I require it to be able to log various sensors (not including engine parameters) for the purpose of set-up testing.
Thanks

What sensors specifically are you looking for? Do you want to log suspension movements specifically?

yeah would like to, would also like to measure some loads, such as loads on wheel, and possibly some temperature sensors on the wheels also for tyre temperature profiles,
This is my first year of doing this, what would you consider the most important things to log during testing?
cheers for your help

Buddy Fey's sadly out of print Data Power book suggested the following six channels as the basics required;
1. Lateral G
2. Longitudinal G
3. Velocity (i.e. wheel speed)
4. Throttle position
5. Steering position
6. rpm
From a driver training point of view these are the most important channels. We are using a system from Datron/2D which we are very happy with, but couldn't afford to buy. It covers the six with a couple of spare channels we aren't using at the mo.
If you need to buy a system I'd look at PI (www.pixpress.com (http://www.pixpress.com)) or Stack (www.stackltd.com (http://www.stackltd.com))
I'd focus on the six channels listed above and worry about suspension displacements and loads until later.

I had to make the decision to go between pi and stack. From what I researched, the Stack system was better for our needs. The modular system looks a lot easier to install in tight spaces, plus the system is easier and cheaper to expand when the need comes. The pi software is adequate, but a bit difficult and "sloppy" to use. The Stack system uses a CAN-bus network, which is heavily used in industry (read: good resume technical skill).
Also, from my experiences trying to contact the companies; pi just seemed to big to really pay attention to us while Stack seemed to be a smaller company that would take that extra step.
I decided on the ST8802SP, and we are waiting on the funding approval. As soon as that happens I will have this system and let you know how much we like or dislike it.

Pi and stack are expensive, I would go with Aimsports. They expanded from go-karting and have managed to keep their stuff reasonnably priced.
Check out their website www.aimsports.com (http://www.aimsports.com)
Oh yeah, don't forget the s at the end of aimsports, or you'll get the wrong website http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Second vote for AimsportS, "Leave the last S ON for savings....from looking at one peice swim suits" haha.
Aimsports is very affordable, and has a great line of products form Lap timers to thier new full dash and data acq system THE XML! It retails for $1500 for the "PRO" version. PLus it has the option for integrated GPS, so you can get 3d tradjectory!
Aimsports is really a great company, with good tech support, and good hardware, as well as a pretty simple to use, yet complex software package.
Basically when you are looking at Data Acq setups you have to look at the software, ALL sensors work the same, Data is data...but how you read, interpret and analyze the data is where the company matters.
The best software out there right now, according to the top DA guys is CDS (competition Data systems). You can get a FULL CDS DA system for around $6500. The next best is Motec, which excels in hardware, but also has a great software package.
