With 27 days until Formula SAE, how many teams have their cars logging lots of data already? How many miles have your new 03 cars seen?

No real way of measuring mileage on our car. It has been running for about a month or more, and has been out everyday on of the weekends and them some. We should have a well shaken down car by the time competition rolls around.

By the time we get to comp, our car will have seen about 2400 miles http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

No idea on miles whatsoever. 2400 sounds like a lot, all the more power to you if that's a fair estimate. We've been running since Jan 31 weather and breakdown permitting. Not quite as bulletproof as we'd like, but we're super anal on that. It will be, come hell or high water.

Does anybody actually limit the amount of testing they do because of fatigue concerns? When I went to the unveiling of GT's car no. 3 this year they talked about limiting their testing to about 60 hours for that reason. Certainly, 2400 miles would be quite a stretch for one of these cars!

OUr 2001 car is an attractive display piece in the lobby of our building, due to rather large cracks in the engine/rear bay joint area.

Not unexpected either, - many parts of the car have finite fatigue lives, and that car in particular was a pain to remove and install the engine, which probably exacerbated the whole thing.

2400 isn't all that hard to imagine, though. 2400 miles at 30mph is 80 hours of track time. We'll certainly be close to that.

I think the 2400 miles is in reference to the mileage it will see on the way from California to Detroit. Hence "the car will see," not the "the car has been driven." The smiley also gives it away. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Do you guys live in climates where testing is possible before the competition? There's still snow and ice down here. In order to test our car we either do it inside, or do it the summer before.

We're not as bad on the snow and ice anymore (although we did get six inches of snow last week) but our major obstacle is rain. Our region has about the same number of rain days as the Pacific Northwest. Coupled with parking lot access issues, and it's a challenge - we make do with what we have and maximize it as best we can.
