Dear all, http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

We're trying to acquire Schuberth Helmets.
However, the Schuberth helmets have a ECE-R 22.05 safety rating.

Can anyone clarify if these are equivalent or exceeding the safety ratings required.

The competition rules specify that the helmet must meet or exceed any of the following specifications:
- Snell M2000, SA2000, M2005, K2005, SA2005
- SFI 31.2A, SFI 31.1/2005
- FIA 8860-2204
- British Standards Institution BS 6658-85 types A or A/FR rating (Type B is not
accepted)

thanks !

This forum is a completely unofficial forum. For official rules clarifications, please contact the rules committee at the email address indicated in the rule book.

That being said, if the helmet doesn't have a sticker the tech judges recognize, you wont pass. I'd suggest getting a helmet which meets one of the rule sets they have familiarity with.

Also, Michigan competition is ongoing. The forum will be dead until Sunday/Monday when people have slept up/sobered up.

Aeros,
ECE helmets are not on the list of approved helmets for Formula SAE (or Formula Student). They will NOT be approved by the Tech Inspectors no matter what you say. It is a liability thing. So if you are planning on running in FSAE events, don't waste your money on an ECE helmet. Buy a Snell approved one from the approved list.

AP,

Search for the HJC AR11 helmet. This is to the same spec and design as the Schuberth, but is a lot cheaper and is Snell approved.

HJC Bought the design from Schuberth, so apart from the badge, they are exactly the same.

I have no association with HJC or their vendors.

Cheers

Pat

Dear Sirs, http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thank you for replying.
We haven't purchased them yet. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

However, we would like to know if the ECE ratings would be a part of the "approved, ratings" list?

The person who was offering it to us, happens to be a friend, and it was quite a disappointment for him.

Thanks !! http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
