View Full Version : Frame Rule Question
In the rule book where they have the minimum wall thickness of tubing for various structural members, what is the minimum wall thickness tubing for members not listed in the table like bottom frame rails and such.

Depends on how good the person doing your welding is.
There is lots of 0.029" on our 2009 car, I might have gone thinner for some of the little triangulating members if I could get it at a reasonable price (and keep all the know-nothings from putting knicks in it).
Best,
Drew

Amen. lol
In all seriousness, thinner than that can get tough to weld.

In conjunction with that, you may also have to work to keep your shop helpers / managers / team n00bs from moving your car around the shop by picking up by the middle of the a-arms - which would make convenient handles, if they weren't made from 0.75" x 0.035" tubing.

Not only n00bs, but also Baja folks who run 1" x 0.095" a-arms (or 1" solid cast aluminum...casted by the team). We've found a solution though, Aircraft Spruce sells some of those cool "no-lift" stickers like used on airplanes. Planning on getting some for all of our cars' upper rear a-arms.

whatever size you can get Adamantium in. I saw it in this sweet movie and it worked pretty well. Don't know about its weld-ability though. Might want to look into it before you buy it. It's magnetic so be aware of induced currents in your ecu due to Maxwell's tensor.
You're Welcome!! ,
