the rules state that the floor must be made of a solid, non-brittle material. does fiberglass fit that description?

I can tell you that I've seen and used fiberglass, carbon fiber, and carbon/kevlar in the past.

But that's not an official answer.

Carbon and fiberglass aren't exactly brittle materials. I think they mean plexiglass or some rigid plastic.

Fibreglass panels are good...once they could take a hit without shattering I think that is the underlying purpose of the rule.

Does anyone use HDPE, ABS, or any other polymer for their floor closeout? If so what thickness?

We were considering possibly using HDPE.

Doesn't cardboard fit that description too?

Ours were always thin aluminum sheet (like 0.035"), it was quick and easy, and you didn't tear out the holes that held it on from putting the zipties on and off a zillion times during the build.

And our shop was always well stocked with sheet for freshman design projects, a pitfall of availability to be sure.

Every team in design finals nowadays seems to have a full undertray with diffuser. RIT even goes as far as having crazy ground effects panels.

Just something to think about, I guess.
