**AMMENDMENT** -- Posters in this thread will not be chastized (too badly) for their lame non-FSAE interests. Thank you for your cooperation. http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Some of these lately have been too good to pass up:

"If you can't find one that works warmed up you can adjust them with a hammer. There are DIY instruction online for adjustment and rebuild, but it's all a little questionable. Bosch made this all very difficult by not making an adjustable part."

--Saabnet.com

In referring a poster to read up on water/meth injection in a street app. turbocharging book, he received the response:

"Why not this and bigger ic. And gorper, id rather real advice than an ad for a book. "

Your first mistake is intentionally having anything to do with Saabs. I thought I'd be a good samaritan and help replace the exhaust manifold on my brothers GF's Saab and I have never been more awestruck with stupid engineering before.

The engine mount had a tab mounted on the same stud as the exhaust manifold, on top of the exhaust manifold.

I think this thread needs a disclaimer at top (I will add it) that we don't harass each other for our interests. This thread needs to be amusing as possible.

Don't think I don't hear this often, but I currently own 4 older Saabs, and they serve me faithfully. I have driven 3 of them back and forth from LA to Chicago for school on 6 different trips, without too much trouble, with *all* of my possessions in the back. I also moved back to Cali last week with 1100lbs of trailer in tow with almost no problems as well. It overheated a little driving up the mountain to Lake Tahoe where I spent the 4th with our graduated engine guy, but it's a 2.0L cooling system, running at about 60% above rated power, going up to 9000 feet elevation, in the summer, about 800 lbs over the gross max weight.

Show me another 2-door coupe with a 4-cyl that will do that! Also, you're welcome to come take one of mine for a spin in the snow, they make fabulous winter and rally cars, but are a little heavy.

I don't really have anything to say about the newer (post-GM) models, since they are really more like Saturns, but mine are all older than I am, and are incredibly clever in mechanical design and supurb in build quality.

The Saab B- series 2.0L engine family that originated in the 900 was originally designed by the partner company at the time, Scania, which is one of Sweden's heavy equipment manufacturers, I.E. they're diesel guys. The cyl bore spacing and amount of material around the cylinder walls looks much more like a diesel engine than most any gasoline engine I have ever seen.

The 30 year old 900 engines have forged and nitrided cranks that will hold 550-600hp, forged rods that don't break until above that, and very hearty Mahle pistons. My family has had several 900's with 200k+ miles that never had any bottom end work, and still had perfect compression.

*end of Saab fanatacism*

Best,
Drew

I assume the saab quote was in reference to adjusting a non-adjustable fuel pressure regulator? Seen that done in practice!

"So how do I find where this voltage leak is?"

"try unplugging the alternator if the one way electrical check valve it it has failed it can drain the battery through the alternator"

Perhaps not entirely inaccurate... but still, is diode too complicated a word?

I think some people take the electrical-water analogy too far.

Too bad it was only trolling http://fsae.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Would have been so much better if it was actually real.

I'm still trying to decide if that's the worst or if it's that guy who apparently wanted to get more boost so he welded some extra fins on his turbo...

This isn't as funny as GM (allegedly) releasing a TSB in the mid-1950's advising dealerships to dump Bon-ami into the carburetor of a running motor if the customer complained about excessive oil consumption in their new car. I guess a can of Bon-ami was cheaper than an engine tear-down to re-hone the cylinders.....

Yep - the funny thing is, for the most part, it works! My grandpa did this in one of his tractors - apparently the rings didn't seat properly before hand.
