Typing "sponsorship" into the little search window...
Wow! Search Works! (http://fsae.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/125607348/m/47810848521?r=47810848521#47810848521)

Seriously, only a handful topics you'd ever want to discuss on the forums that haven't been discussed before.

One thing to remember about traditional sponsorship is that a company will not give you money/products unless the business they expect to gain from the exposure is at least equal to their investment.

With that said I would say the vast majority of sponsors in FSAE simply do it since its a "feel good sponsorship." Its basically like sponsoring a peewee hockey team. Aside from that they all love the tax deductibles.

Well, I think a lot of our sponsors help us because they hope that our current team members will be their future employees. Sponsoring an FS/FSAE team is probably not really beneficial marketing-wise, because the competition is completely, totally unknown (at least it is in The Netherlands). But the possibility of recruiting excellent engineers is something companies will pay you good money for.

I second what Jasper said. Further, our current team members are our sponsors' future customers. Imagine you will one day work and design a part, then you need ball bearings, prepreg or a CNC contractor. Of course you will first talk to the company which supported you during your FSAE involvement, because you already know their products and the company. That's why many companies will give you most stuff for free now.

Ask people you know who own businesses. You're more likely to get donations from them then a stranger.
