Hello all,

I was hoping someone could clarify a rule for me.....

"All driver restraint systems must meet SFI Specification 16.1, SFI Specification 16.5, or FIA
specification 8853/98"

Does this mean that the harness we use must meet both SFI 16.1 and 16.5 OR FIA 8853/98? I was looking to buy this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/vms-751001/overview/ but it only meets 16.1.

If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it!

Thanks

rjb2968,

I would say by the wording of the rule that you will be okay with the harness you have selected. However this is not a place for rules clarification, you should submit an official rules query if you are worried.

rjb2968,

There are two things to be aware about that harness.

"T5.1.2f Cars with a “reclined driving position” (see 5.1.1.e above) must have either a 6 point or 7-point harness, AND have either anti-submarine belts with tilt lock adjusters (“quick adjusters”) or have two (2) sets of anti-submarine belts installed."
It doesn't seem to have a "quick adjuster".

And that SFI ratings are good for 2 years where as FIA belts are good for 5 years generally. This belt seems to be SFI only so it will only be good for 2 seasons. If you're going to use the same belts for multiple cars and don't cut the wrap around straps too short you should consider a FIA belt.
So if you have a upright seating position and are only going to use the belts on one or two cars then it looks fine.
