Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help please.

We are looking for material that will allow air through to the accumulator containers for battery cooling, however won't allow water to pass through. We have managed to find breathable waterproof material (such as below), however we are unsure if it would allow enough air to pass through to cool the batteries.

If anybody could help or has any good suggestions it would be much appreciated!

Many thanks,

Tom

I seriously doubt that you can get any significant air mass flow through something like that... What kind of mass flow (or volume flow) are you looking to get?

Why do you think you need to use a waterproof fabric? Have you been to comp and looked at accumulators there? What team are you with?

Not worth to tell you who are / which university and country you are from, Tom?

Hi Adam, thanks for the response. At the moment we don't have any specific values for the amount of air mass flow, however we do know cooling of our accumulators will most probably be required, and are therefore trying to plan ahead!

We are from University of Leicester Racing and noticed some other teams (noticeably Horsepower Hannover) were using a similar sort of membrane to allow cooling.

Many thanks, Tom

Apologies Claude, I didn't think this would be necessary as I have already introduced myself on my other thread.

Hi Tom,

you could use that but I guess especially if you have high charge and discharge rates, your cells need more cooling that this fabric allows.

In Zurich we always used some filter pads (something like these https://www.conrad.de/medias/global/ce/5000_5999/5300/5330/5331/533164_BB_00_FB.EPS_1000.jpg) to keep most of the water outside the box.

In the rain you basically don't need that much cooling and you can take them out if it is dry.
