The Formula SAE and Formula Hybrid Rules, specifically T14.13, prohibit drivers wearing undergarments made from certain synthetic materials, e.g. nylon, because they can melt when exposed to high heat. As scrutineers and event organizers, we do not check drivers' undergarments as they go out onto the track, relying on their good sense to abide by this rule. However, we often suspect that many are either ignorant of the rule or choose to ignore it. The SFI Foundation has recently conducted some tests to show why this rule is in place. I suggest that ALL your drivers and your team management read this report and take it to heart.

We all need to keep safety at the forefront of what we do.
