Safety Wire

How do you guys wind your safety wire? I am aware that one can purchase pliers specifically for it but I'm curious if those are worth the money. Also, what brand/type of safety wire jig should I get?

According your question I assume, that you never applied safety wire yourself. Without the right tool it is quite a pain to get it done properly. It is a one time investment which isn't too expensive. In my opinion an absolute must-have!

Those pliers are very worth your time to purchase. However, if you're on an extreme budget, then there are other methods to get the job done, including doing it by hand.

Here's a video that I liked that is instructional on several different methods with and without safety wire pliers and proper technique. Although it is a bit out of normal reach for most FSAE teams, it covers cable ties as well. Even very well established guys can learn a bit from this.
