STOPTECH JOB DESCRIPTION – MECHANICAL ENGINEER IN TRAINING

MECHANICAL ENGINEER IN TRAINING - This job description is expected to apply to Engineering students engaged by us to work in the area of mechanical drawing while completing their college education.

JOB SUMMARY: Apply drafting experience and engineering analysis to aid in the design and application of high performance automotive components, work holding and test fixtures.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
o Create engineering drawings or revisions for in-house production of system components.
o Disassembly and installation of vehicle brake systems.
o Apply understanding of mechanical knowledge in the creation of installation manuals for brake system upgrades.
o Proactively prioritize, track, and manage new part development to meet deadline requirements.
o Other duties as may be required by management, including any tasks required to implement and maintain the company’s TS16949 Quality Certification.

SKILLS DESIRED
o Requires a registration in a Bachelors of Science degree program in mechanical engineering or a related field of study.
o Some experience in a mechanical engineering environment.
o SolidWorks solid modeling and engineering drawing creation with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) knowledge.
o Good communication skills and problem solving that can be shown are improving with experience.
o Intermediate skills using MS Office applications (especially Excel) and Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
o Must be able to work independently and with groups.
o Prior participation in SAE Mini Baja or Formula SAE experience is a plus. Understanding of vehicle dynamics and brake system performance, and experience in a road racing environment is a plus.

MECHANICAL APTITUDE/ DRAFTING
o Must be capable of reading and understanding mechanical drawings
o Must understand dimensions in inch and metric (millimeter)
o Must understand fasteners and hardware
o Must understand engineering terms such as torque, force, safety or critical dimensions

MISCELLANEOUS
o Keep work area and department clean, neat, and orderly
o Able to stand or sit for long periods of time
o Abide by all policies established by the Employee Handbook and other rules and safety procedures established at Stoptech
o Other duties as may be required by management



STOPTECH JOB DESCRIPTION – TECHNICAL WRITER OF INSTALLATION MANUALS

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Technical Writer will review reference documents and either modify existing electronic work instructions manuals or create new ones, as needed, for use in both initial and refresher training of assemblers and/ or distribution to end users. In context with Assembly Procedures, in order to facilitate being able to formulate work instructions or manuals that are accurate and complete, the candidate will assemble, test, and package brake components and/ or systems according to bills of material, while maintaining and following process documents. In context with Installation Manuals the candidate will help to install brake systems in vehicles while following standardized procedures and direction form an Application Engineer. This position requires that the candidate spend approximately 20% of their time performing mechanical assembly or installation tasks with supervision, and 80% of their working independently creating process documents using computer software and a digital camera.

TECHNICAL WRITING
o Must be capable of writing work instructions in English using a desktop PC.
o Interview production and engineering personnel and read other material to become familiar with production methods
o Observe and detail production activities to determine procedure
o Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to help illustrate procedure
o Review current and previously published procedures and recommend revisions
o As applicable, review equipment manufacturer's data relative to operation, maintenance, and service
of equipment as well as safety considerations
o Instructions should be:
• understandable by someone with average reading comprehension
• detailed but brief
• lead to the same result when read and applied by different people
• completely free of spelling and grammatical errors

o Maintain records and files of work and revisions
o Must have above average skills using Microsoft Word
o Able to utilize advanced formatting and form designs
o Able to embed photos
o Must have knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
o Able to crop photos
o Able to adjust and edit photo properties
o Capable of operating a digital camera to take close-up photos of product in various stages of assembly
o Must have knowledge of Microsoft Visio, Excel or PowerPoint to create flow charts

ASSEMBLY
o Follow written and verbal instructions
o Understand and follow part numbering system
o Understand and apply quality standards/inspection procedures to work product
o Understand and rigorously adhere to bills of materials in work orders
o Able to work both quickly and accurately
o Attention to details – labels, paperwork, etc.
o Self-motivated
o Ability to work without continuous supervision
o Able to multi-task, plan efficient work flow, and transition between tasks and processes quickly
