McLaren Applied Technologies is the Official Electronic Control Unit Supplier to the FIA Formula One World Championship, the sole ECU supplier to the IZOD IndyCar® Series and from 2012 the Official ECU Supplier to NASCAR. These world-class electronic control systems are capable of controlling the engine, gearbox and chassis of a modern race car, as well as providing a data logging and telemetry capability. McLaren Applied Technologies is unique in also offering a complete range of rugged, high-performance sensors to complement the broader system capability. In addition to these on-car systems, McLaren Applied Technologies provide the real-time telemetry and data analysis across all Formula One race teams.

Applicants should meet at least the following criteria.
Educational requirements
Applicants should have relevant engineering degrees.
Base skills and experience required
• Good understanding of all the electrical and electronic elements of modern automotive (road and motorsport) chassis and powertrain systems. This includes the characteristics of typical sensors and actuators used.
• Ability to diagnose hardware (electrics/electronics) and software problems under pressure. To be able to probe a problem and objectively understand whether it is a failure of the system or its environment.
• Ability to perform in-depth analysis of problems.
• Good communicator with the ability to capture information quickly and accurately.
• Ability to work individually and in a team.
• Ability to report, verbally and in writing, in a precise, concise but accurate manner to colleagues and customers.
• Willing to travel extensively for business.
• Experienced in Visual Basic (VB macros etc) and Matlab/Simulink.
• Experienced in use of data analysis tools.
• Experienced in use of ECU set-up tools.
• Experienced in use of Excel, generation of forms and maintenance of VB macros.
• Experienced in use of electrical test equipment.
Additional skills which would be an advantage
• Experience of electric drives used in hybrid systems.
• Experience with vehicle harness design and manufacturing practices.
• Knowledge SQLServer, C++ and C# would be advantageous.
