DJ Engineering Services is ideally looking for a second year UK student sourcing a year out on industrial placement as part of their university course.
We are a small company based in the High Peak district of Derbyshire, specialising in race car design & manufacture and composite work. Our clients range from individual club competitors to well known racing car manufacturers and teams. We also build and maintain some of our own cars in the British Hillclimb championship, from our Cosworth V8-engined DJ Firestorm to our supercharged Hayabusa-powered DJ Firehawk.
This placement is an internship with expenses - the experience that you would receive would be extensive as we are a small company which means staff must master a broad range of skills. An example of your roles would include:
• Laminating pre preg components - predominantly wings. We are well known in motorsport for the excellent quality of our composite work. We have a large autoclave alongside an oven and you will be taught to use both.
• Trimming, bonding and fitting composite parts, both wings and parts for our cars
• Run basic programs on both of our CNC mills.
• Dependent on skill level, design parts in PTC Pro Engineer software. If you prove capable you will also program CAM routines for the CNC mills.
• Ordering of materials & technical research
• Liaise with customers and deal with new enquiries
• Dependent on experience and capabilities you may work on our single seat hillclimb cars that compete in the British Hillclimb Championship.
• Undertake research for new products and manufacturing techniques
In addition to this students are encouraged to attend the national hillclimb events to support the competing DJ racecars on a voluntary basis.
Former placement students have gone on to work in the industry, both in F1, Le Mans and other racing teams, and also in companies specialising in technical research and partnerships. Due to our extensive customer and client base we are well known within the industry which has helped our students find employment upon graduation.
